Glaucoma Awareness Month

Glaucoma is a condition of increased pressure within the eyeball which causes a gradual, irreversible loss of sight. Strong risk factors for open-angle glaucoma include:



-African Americans or Latinos over 40 years of age.

-History of Diabetes/

-High Blood pressure or cardiovascular disease.


The initial loss of sight in this form of the disease is from the peripheral vision or the "fringes" of what you can see from the sides so you may not notice. One major form of glaucoma is called "open-angle"(which is actually a common type)typically doesn't have warning signs. You should regularly see your eye doctor for checkups, especially if you fall into the higher-risk categories.
