May is mental health awareness month. Crescent City Optical is taking this time to spread awareness of mental health. Due to the pandemic, many may be experiencing anxiety, depression, and many other mental illnesses. The first step in having a healthy mental state is knowing when to get help. Though many of the stigmas of seeking mental health help are fading, some people may be skeptical. This article will focus on how to pursue support for mental health.
The first step is to let your primary care doctor know that you need mental resources. Your doctor will ask you questions to have a treatment plan and provide the resources to help. It is imperative to be transparent about where you are mentally to get the optimum care. Suppose you are not comfortable speaking to your primary care doctor. In that case, you can call your insurance and see what therapists and other behavioral health providers are in your network and schedule an appointment yourself. Taking this step is a long journey, but it is well worth it.
